Hi guys,

I picked one of these up on black Friday to try and turn my TV into a smart one. I'm using Kodi at the moment to watch YouTube, twitch etc but the blacks are very dark and seem crushed. It makes dark parts of videos I'm watching completely unwatchable. I had a raspberry pi before and the same content didn't seem to cause an issue. From reading online it seems like it might be to do with the box outputting full RGB but the TV only accepting limited (or visa versa)?. In all fairness though this is all above my head. Any ideas?

Android 6.0 TV Box Amlogic S905X is the box

Thanks

Just tried the above, I don't have the option even on expert mode. Using the latest build (jarvis) from play store. Any ideas? Thanks

the colour option may be available on your tv too (used to be on my Sharp) ... but lude1962 seemed pretty confident

Ah Android and RGB limited support. My minix x7 became an expensive paperweight because of it. Gave up in the end, video content was basically unwatchable and Minix didnt give a toss.

Nothing on the TV to change the settings unfortunately. I've plugged my raspberry pi back in and it's fine. I'll just send this back android box back and get a raspberry pi 3 to replace it.

Thanks anyway :)

This article covers issue and as kmetec says kodi v17 may hold the answer ,

... Kodi v17 has a new way to process video that does not require the initial expansion to Full. So for the best image you want the setting in Kodi > System > Video Output set to "Use Limited Range" and disable Dithering. From there you want to use xrandr to set your video output to limited and set your TV to limited (labeled YCbCr on my TV). That should result in the least amount of processing of your video image. ....

I lucked out a bit in that most displays that I use with media devices, etc. have had an option to force it in the OSD which usually forces the device to use full range RGB even the ones that don't cooperate usually.

Update - had a mess with this today, couldn't get any of the beta / nightly builds to actually install and just kept getting 'app not installed'. should have just stick with openelec on the pie :)
