Android Update help

Hey

So I got an android phone today and downloaded the software for it on my PC and it says an update available, however, it says my battery should be at least 50% before I tempt to update it which it is.

It says hold volume down when plugging in the USB which I'm doing but it just puts my phone on charge? so do I need to wait for my phone to be charge or what?

Managed to do it in the end, thanks anyway, Had to use the flashloader program or something instead of sony's software and it was the driver windows installed that was causing the malfunction.

So uninstalled it, put USB debugging on in the phone, plugged it back in PC and it worked
