Angle grinder help

Holding the brake button and tightening the disc with the disc itself is fine. It'll always tighten itself with use. Removal could be difficult, but you'll probably be fine

What this guy says. That's how I have always done it and more or less every metalworker I have seen do it this way. You can undo it the same way too. The danger of using the tool is overtightening which is a big no no.

Those disc's you have bought are brilliant for surface rust and paint removal.

It's probably a reversed thread.
I would say if you are using this you got to get the PPE on. There are of angle grinder accidents.

My top tip is to always have the side handle fitted and use it!
I've been bad and been chasing a few sockets without it!

I also bought an adjustable wrench for different pin screw sizes, but has anyone tried the quick release screws instead? Been thinking of buying those to not need to remember a spanner all the time.

Yep this is a must , although the disks are generally abrasive they still cut through flesh easily , one slip and it’ll bite ya and if you’re lucky you’ll get away with missing an artery

Thank you all for the tips! I'll try and fasten it by hand first and see if that way works otherwise will get that special wrench as one that came is straight so doesn't reach.

I've put on the handle so no need to worry about that :D

you've purchased those particular disks ? sctotch-brite roloc seem to be the dogs, but cost $$$, and I've hesitated on imitations.

My safety message is never use goggles with a stray strap that might get caught

Friend of a friend cut his arm off with one, fortunately the guy with him was a paramedic otherwise would probably have died.

I have always been a bit casual with angle grinders but once I heard that story I treadt them with a lot more respect now.

Yes, they are brilliant. I used them on a Astra rear axle and sub frame. Previously I tried a wire brush attachment and the wires were detatching and going everywhere so saw these and gave them a go. A pair of goggles is a must and a face mask may be a good idea too depending on what you are stripping.

It's literally what I did. Scrap bit of metal. Measure out the distance of the holes on the grinder. Find suitable bolts that fit and reach holes on grinder. On scrap metal drill holes to size of bolt thread. Pop bolts through, nut on the other side. Tighten. Sorted.
That's actually a really good idea, could even use a standard angle grinder spanner, drill out the existing nubs then as you say put long bolts through.
