Hi guys,
I've just spent a few hundred quid upgrading my system, i'll give the details shortly but something doesn't feel right to me, i can't put my finger on it but it's like i've forgotten something or not bought something, please take a look and see whats what.
Antec 902 Case (though i do like the look of the 600's if i'm honest)
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition @ 3.40GHz with stock cooler (Not OC'd)
Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 (bought cos of sata 6GB/USB3 and hopefully be compliant with the Thuban processor coming out soon)
8GB Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-10666 1333MHz (bought cos of the latency being 6-6-6-20)
780W OCZ Modxstream PSU (less than £100 for a 780watt psu enough said)
2 X Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Cards in Crossfire Mode (because they seemed quite good bang for buck and were on offer)
Samsung PB22-J 128GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (bought a while ago cos its enough space for boot drive and very fast)
Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA-II (install games onto rather than onto the SSD directly)
Samsung 1TB F1 7200RPM SATA-II (Movie and ISO archive drive)
Benq 24" LED Monitor (OCUK seems to have taken these monitors off now, probably sold out since its a 24" monitor with the best display that i have ever seen for less than £150 even though it only has a 5ms response time it's still excellent value)
Logitech Z Cinema with SRS true surround (very, very good speakers)
Senheisser wireless Stereo Headset (very, very good headphones, excellent for gaming at 4 in the morning)
USB wireless multimedia keyboard (which is very useful for media center)
Logitech trackman 2 button usb wireless mouse (perhaps the worst mouse i have ever used and will be upgrading very very soon)
Xbox 360 controller and Pinnacle Game Profiler (as far as i'm concerned its esential
)
using windows vista 64 at the minute since i blew my money on upgrades otherwise will be upgrading to windows 7 once i get some more brass at the end of the month.
anyway, thats the round up and i know what i will be doing in the future. I will be, at some point, upgrading the HDD when sata 6GB SSD's come out (still using this 128GB one to load apps from), upgrade from crossfire to a single 5900 when the prices come down and upgrading from the 965 to a thuban when they come out in may.
thats the long term plans anyway, the only short term plans ive got is to add another 1TB storage drive (or use usb external drives eitherway doesn't make much diff) and upgrade the mouse cos this one is a bitch and keeps loosing its connection.
I don't know what is, but i just keep getting the feeling that something just isn't right. I don't know wether it's because i need to add another storage drive or what but something gets me. Originally i was going to upgrade to an I7 but after the reports that i read of the dubbed I9 i decided to stick with AMD for the Thuban that should be coming along in May, maybe its that i didn't go with Intel why i feel like i'm missing something but i just got the impression that in the coming months when they release their hex core processor that they are going to make a big **** up and anyone on the p55 chipset is going to be screwed if they want to upgrade to a hex core processor.
