The series centers on 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody, who moves in with his freewheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. Headed by boot-tough matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody and her right-hand Baz, who runs the business and calls the shots, the clan also consists of Pope, the oldest and most dangerous of the Cody boys; Craig, the tough and fearless middle son; and Deran, the troubled, suspicious "baby" of the family. Also prominent are Nicky, J's steady girlfriend, and Catherine, Baz's de facto wife and the mother of their 3-year-old daughter, Lena. It isn't long before Josh is pulled into the family's life of indulgence and excess, but he soon discovers that it's all being funded by criminal activities. Joining the family comes with more danger and excitement than he might be ready to handle.

Could have sworn we already had another thread probably several pages back, its a nicely done tv series was surprised the acting was good and they each played their characters like they were already them, no feeling out process at all.

The series has that dark gritty style that Kingdom (MMA based series) or Ray donavon has it would have been much better if they had an uncut or 18+ version not sure they do though, Look forward to next season.

Yeah I got that Ray Donovan vibe, upto episode 4 not really pulled into it but not really bored by it either.

Watched the pilot last night and thought it wasn't too bad. Will watch a few more to see if I'll stick with it.

I see that it's based on a 2010 film with the same title and story line.

My new show will be be either this or Goliath.

PS: Is it just me or is that Pope character a complete fruit loop?

I'm 3 episodes in on Amazon and liking it. I get the SoA comparisons and it's good but not as good so far.

Pope kinda pulls me out of it though as he's a really recognisable actor from quite a few things in recent years whereas the rest aren't.

Never got beyond episode 4 myself just kind of randomly lost interest and had a few more interesting shows to watch and not got back into it.

Small bump as there is a second season on Amazon now.

Only just started this last week and binged the whole first series which i really enjoyed, And I'm now onto the 4th ep of the second season, Again I'm enjoying it.

Can't believe this hasn't had more chat.

Just started season 3... wow... this has fast become one of my favourite shows ever.

The storyline twists and turns and backstabbing is unbelievable, but the way they show it makes it so believable, it's kind of hard to explain. They do all the normal stuff as well as crazy stuff.

I'm so hooked I watched seasons 1 and 2 over the space of a week.

Already thinking how sad I'm gonna be and finish season 3 and don't get to know what happens with the family next.

Excellent show, like said earlier lots of back stabbing and twist !

Smurfs an awesome character you can't tell if shes hugging you or wants to kill you, your just left traumatized by her !
