Wasn't sure where to actually put this post, so apologies if it should be somewhere else.
Anyone here own an Anki overdrive and have some thoughts?
We bought a set yesterday for my son's birthday and gave it a quick test last night.
Not sure whether to keep or return it.
The track system is nicely done, and very easy to put together/pull apart. So thumbs up for that.
Control by a smartphone? So what really. Never saw what was wrong with a traditional type, and if anything, shouldn't the game be cheaper with fewer physical parts? All the same, seems easy enough to control.
The game modes, i.e. allowing upgrades and guns feels a bit naff.
Lastly, and this is the killer point, there appeared to be little actual skill required in driving the cars. I can't remember crashing once, and there appeared to be no need to modulate the throttle to get around a corner. Maybe it's because it was a 10 min test, but can anyone comment on whether the driving gets any better?
We have a micro-scalextrix, which is nuts fast, and that is very much all or nothing, with no ability to hang the back of the car out, as my old 1/32nd scale Polistil set allows.
I can see how this might well appeal to my 8 year old. But right now, I'm feeling rather underwhelmed. Any thoughts or comments?
