I,m not wanting to sound thick ,but what is the difference between ADSL 2+ Annex A and Annex M ?

Wikipedia does it better than I could, though I suspect their bandwidth figures are 'ideal condition' numbers which never happen in practice...

Wikipedia said:
ITU G.992.5 Annex M is an ITU (International Telecommunication Union) standard, also referred to as 'ADSL2+M'. ITU G.992.5 Annex M extends the capability of basic ADSL2 by doubling the number of upstream bits. The data rates can be as high as 24 Mbit/s downstream and 3.5 Mbit/s upstream depending on the distance from the DSLAM to the customer's home.

The main difference between this specification and ITU G.992.5 (ADSL2+) is that the upstream/downstream frequency split has been shifted from 138kHz up to 276kHz, allowing upstream bandwidth to be increased from 1.4 Mbit/s to 3.3 Mbit/s, with a corresponding decrease in download bandwidth.

If youve got a decent enough line then you can have Annex M and Fastpath enabled which means you get the extra upload with virtually no download speed loss :)

In my experience it does vary a lot as to where youre uploading to though! I had some tasty upload speeds of up around 200-250kbps when uploading to a decent FTP but when DCCing to mates it varied hehe :P from 30-60 to a mate with Pipex but sometimes around 160kbps to someone else with BE :D
