Has anyone else been looking forward to this? I have tried the demo and was very very impressed but recently found out it has an install limit of three.

ah usually i just skim over 1st page, but that thread doesnt mention the drm, I think ppl should be aware as it really is bad for gaming

I was thinking to buy this after enjoying the demo, now however I think I'll be naughty instead, 3x install limit, they can go **** themselves with DRM like that.

Ergh, DRM :(

I have all the previous ANNO games - guess I might not be buying this one for a while (will the Steam version still have same DRM?).

Yep, Steam version is limited to 3 installs as well. For confirmation, just search the game in Steam and it says so in the game details.

a lot of users re-install all the time. I know I'm allways messing about and changing things. Ubisoft will probably find that they'll lose a lot of sales by adding DRM to games.

Indeed I often install/re-install in cycles, I'll get bored of a game, uninstall then reinstall a few months down the line.

it says on the steam page "3 machine activation limit", not just "3 activation limit". therefore the limiting factor is how many machines you have it on, not how many times total you have installed it. for this to be true you must be able to deactivate it whenever you uninstall, so there is really no need to cry

How will it know how many machines you've installed it on? If I change my motherboard is that a new machine? if I change hard drive or gfx card will that be counted as a new machine?

Either way it's pathetic DRM has no business in the games industry imo, ever since I learnt about Tages etc. I have stopped buying the games, add to that the problems I've had on my tages/DRM based games in the past means I won't be buying it.

can't see the problem unless ur going to have 3 unexpected hd crashes, and i've had none in 12 years of gaming

Let see, I'm running a beta Windows .. which means I've formatted whole system a few times in the past few months - and will once again when 7 is final.

I also tend to wipe games during a format (with the exception of steam stuff as that is easy to backup); so I re-install after a format.

Yes there is, it's an unneeded hassle, downloading & cracking the game is FAR easier, gets rid of those pesky cd checks too.

I have twice in the past 2 years, besides, I really can't be arsed removing games properly before a windows reinstall. It's a bloody disgrace that even on steam, you have to cope with rubbish like this.

Activation: fine, I don't care, just don't bug me ever again if I install the game on a 7th pc or borrow my game out to a mate.
Activation limit: Go to hell.
