I'm thinking of giving one of the Anno games a punt, my interest has been sparked by the impending settlers 7, the first of which I throughly enjoyed. Can anyone recommend which of the Anno games is the best or should I just wait for Settlers 7?

just be prepared to sacrifice great chunks of time to 1404, it kinda sneaks up on you & sucks you in. especially if you play continuous game as opposed to campaign mode.

That's the problem >_<. Started playing the master builder scenario. Did 25 hours on that one game and i was playing religously.

Didn't know about an expansion though! Pre-order time.

Cheers for the quick replies guys, will give 1404 a spin, is it compatable with win 7 64bit?

And has it been patched and updated as it has progressed, looks good though, looking for a good settlers type game and you're right, that price is a steal!

Works fine in 7 64. There might be 1 or 2 patches around, I've not really looked tbh. Not had a problem since install so :p

Actually I am tempted by this too. Kinda skint and even though its only 12 quid i only want it if suits me. I really need a new civilisation type game. I loved Civ4 (just looks a bit dated though i still play it) I remeber liking the age of empire games but i seem to hate empire total war, i want a game that is more like civ4 than empire total war, should this or settlers 7 due soon fit the bill?

I had a similiar quandry. As Anno 1404 only £11.98 and in stock on the rainforest I thought I would give it a punt. Have done some reading and if you buy the disc version and download the patch and install it before running the game it should rmeove the drm.....don't quote me though :D

At £12 what is there to lose as settlers 7 isn't out for another month and is like £27.

I liked 1404 to begin with, its pretty and the gameplay does suck you in, but it gets tiring getting everything in order for your citizens to upgrade and stay happy.
