Ubisoft has officially revealed Anno Online during its Gamescom 2012 conference. According to the company, players will be amazed with what they have achieved with this game, as it has set the benchmark in visual quality and it delivers a full Anno featured experience for free. To be honest, we were not impressed by the game’s visuals but then again, this is a browser-based title.

Anno Online will be a free to play title and will be Ubisoft’s debut game into the MMO space.

Developed by Blue Byte, Anno Online will be playable via your browser.

No release date has been announced as of yet, but Ubisoft has released the game’s teaser trailer that can be viewed below.

- Stronghold Kingdoms
- Anno online
- Ultimate Online
- Settlers Online
- Command and conquer generals 2 Online

Anything else we need online? with these f2p rubbish

I echo the OP's sentiment - I am sick to death of f2p games ruining excellent franchises!
Anno is awesome, I would happily pay the developers the full rrp to get a complete game. I despise micro transactions and paying to unlock features etc.

On another note, how is the game shaping up? Haha

I've played it a bit this evening whilst planning for my lessons tomorrow, and I have to say its the best f2p browser game I've ever played. Other than the obvious time sinks which go in (which really can only be sped up by spending real money), it feels just like Anno, there is still the basic fit as much as possible into the space by maximising the area, and still the complex resource system. It's one I can see myself opening up most evening just to make sure that I've spent all my resources.

Why the **** am I clicking this beta key **** every 30 seconds.

There are still 8819 keys available
every damn time so it's not like they are giving a key away every 30seconds....

okay... it says "please don't refresh this page"

I refresh the page. don't need to wait 30 seconds and get a key first click..

make of that what you will

This goes in to open beta today if anyone is interested.

Been playing for just under a week and if you like Anno, you will like it. Obviously it's a lot slower to cater for the F2P model but it's still Anno.

Everything seems to be going online :(

I hate playing online :(. I just like good games with good AI. If i am going to do something with other people, I will do something more interesting than playing a game.

I recently bought Anno 2070 in a sale and it is an amazing single player game. More of that please.

It's boring as hell. Takes so long to do anything of worth.

Agree with this, 2070 was paced nicely, and had some terrific effects especially going underwater. Would have though this model would have been prime for what Sim City did (badly). Somthing akin to 2070 with water/land/air bases that could trade/fight other players. This is very much a step back in terms of gameplay/graphics/creativity, stinks hugely of cash grab, seems to play worse than 1404.

Can't say I'm overly enthusiastic about it

They are basically copying Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Settlers, Stronghold.. and those are just a few I can think of "on the fly" while typing this

The trouble is once they cash in on the browser based micro transaction based market their presence on the very platforms that elevated the respective studios to stardom in the first place disapears.. or if they do continue to release games, they are poorly made in comparison to their earlier predacessors

Aside from the likes of Starcraft 2 (which having said that, isn't for everybody) and upcoming titles like CoH2.. the rts genre on the pc platform is stagnating/losing a lot of its former depth
Even traditional titles like CIV5 have gone a bit OTT with the amount of DLC they spew out

Don't get me wrong.. if your into browser games centered around money spent above all else then obviously its good, but if you game on the PC, its a pretty negative piece of news
