Annoying as hell ATI driver bug.

Yeah looks like it was fixed via BIOS update in February/March timeframe, only 3mths pretty good going...

The point me & Loads was making is that your long-winded analysis with a dose of scorn thrown at ATI/AMD of the problem was way off.
And if he had settled with your thoughts on the matter he would be no better off than when he first started the thread.

Thats the problem with NV users giving ATI users advice on current issues as they rarely help solve the problem & are more interested in putting ATI down.

So I got my brand new 4870 XFX xXx edition card today. So I am installing the latest drivers and after a reboot with the new drivers I notice my screen is flickering quite a lot, so I look up on the web and find that this has been a bug that has plagued some users for quite a while. As I have read the basic issues seems to be when the card goes over 900Mhz Memory Clock it can cause the screen to flicker :S, seems mine is doing that, when I turn the clock down to 900Mhz from 950Mhz the bug goes away. I mean, does anyone know a fix for this or am I totally screwed here? Dont wanna send the card back, just wanna play games at the moment :(. Only happens after installing the display driver, never when the card is first installed.

Well I don't think You did a very good job of describing Your problem and not surprisingly got reply's that were well off the mark !

From a few driver versions back Ati improved it's software driven power play and some 4870's that had different memory clocks set in the cards bios for 2D/3D etc would give a couple of screen flickers when switching the power states.
Also tweaking the memory in overdrive is basically doing the same thing which is from what I can make out is a DDR5 only issue

OK, now You know what the issue really is I'm sure you should be able to figure out a workaround ;).......providing of course Your not needing to run some sort of intermittent windowed 3D app, but that too can be got around ;)
