Annoying beep - USB device removal

I recently attached a usb memory stick to a USB port, took it out without ejecting it (not thinking), now I intermittently get the beeping sound you get when inserting/removing something from USB.

I've restarted but I still get the beep and after a while I get an error message coming up about a USB device not installed properly (even though the device has been removed 2 restarts ago).

Anyone got any idea how to remedy?

That's a pain. I would try re-attaching it and then eject it properly.

I tried that, but to no avail. Quite odd.

Not sure where to start on this problem.

You could try uninstalling the memory stick in Device Manager.
