Hey folks,

So I use Ebay a fair bit, selling and buying.

Anyway, I sold a few items recently, and I usually only leave feedback when they (if they are the buyers) leave it first.

Anyway, I left 3 positive feedbacks for people, and one of them still hasnt left one back, I thought it's a bit unfair as it's about building a reputation, so I emailed them politely and asked them if they could leave me feedback (2 weeks later this is). Or I would remove mine.

Anyway, they have a business on ebay (only small by the looks of it 200ish feedback) so im sure they value how important feedback is.

I received this;

"Hi Firstly.... Any type of feedback (including positive) cannot be withdrawn unless both parties agree to it. Secondly.... Feedback is entirely voluntary and a member only needs to do it if they want to. Please don't email me again as I have found this extremely annoying - I certainly wouldn't buy anything from you again or recommend you to other buyers. "

Completely OTT do you think!?

I will, I just thought i'd share the annoyance lol

Unbelievable, when you consider I really rushed to get that item sent way before they even expected it.

Last time I go out of my way on there  :D

It is a bit annoying for me to say i'd withdraw yea, but it's also uncalled for to reply in such a snobbish manner.

Also, as mulps says, the tone is irritating!

Never email someone and ask for feedback, it's rude. Also as said you can't remove it yourself. If you sell on ebay then a certain proportion will never leave you feedback, you just have to accept it.

Sorry, but I hate people who chase others for feedback and can see where he's coming from.

Also - if someone has bought something off you it's good manners to leave them feedback as soon as they have sent the money - after all - that's the only obligation they have and it solves the whole mindset of 'I don't leave feedback until I get it first'.

Going to hijack this thread a little. I just bought an ipod nano and on the description was this:

Black 2GB Ipod Nano - Working Order

This ipod is in complete working order

This ipod is sold as working but with scrtaches on back but harly see it.

The ipod will be sent recorded delivery, with no box or manuals, but have cable (usb) (again these items are available readily on ebay)

Now would you say from reading that description that you get an ipod nano black 2gb with the "usb" cable but no box or manuals?

As I didnt get the bloody usb cable from the seller and had to go out lastnight and get one :/

I really don't understand this sentiment. Personally I think it's rude not to give feedback and I don't mind people asking if I forget.

Calm down - it's a only a piece of stupid feedback. I've sold and bought a fair bit on ebay and I probably only get feedback 80% of the time. I always leave it, and if there probs I always emails before leaving feedback incase it can be cleared up.

Besides after about 50 +ve feed back you don't really need any more, unless you goal is to be a POWA SELLA!!22 in which case you'll have a few thousand and the odd 20% won't really matter.

Did you email the seller or use the power of an angry mind to try and transmit this information to him through the air waves?

As a seller I have occasionally forgot to add in a cable or an accessory for stuff, and I've either realised and forwarded it on, or the buyer emailed me and I forwarded it on. NO HASSLES!

I'd say its perfectly acceptable to only leave feedback once you know they've received the item. All sorts of stuff can happen after payment has been made and I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to take that into account when leaving feedback.

i never leave feedback until i get it 1st. If i don't get it then i don't give, simple :)

This sort of mentality sucks, what if the buyer pays immediately upon winning the auction through paypal, he/she then deserves immediate feedback for completing the payment in a fast and efficient manner, regardless of whether the seller keeps his end of the transaction by delivering promptly, what is it your afraid of????

As a buyer I always leave feedback. As a seller I wait for the buyer to leave it first. This is common practice on ebay. Feedback is not a right, it is a privilege. It is nice to receive it (assuming it's positive naturally) but if I don't, I think nothing of it and don't take it personally.

Because the odd buyer will feel that they have free reign to leave unfair neutral or negative feedback if they know they can not be retaliated against.

It's a joke that the seller isn't forced to leave feedback first

The buyer only has to pay the money, I pay as soon as my bid ends... so should get the feedback straight away... I guess the only way this varies is if the buyer messes the seller around in terms of delivery arrangements, after paying
