Annoying "Google" Problem on Android Phone - If Anyone Fancies a Crack at It

I got a Galaxy S8+ on release (it's running the version of Android it came with, not rooted or otherwise altered), and ever since then* I've been plagued with a problem where any Google search ONLY ON WIFI will result in the spinning arrow of waiting, before finally popping up with an error about there being no network connection. This happens in the Google search bar and any browser that I do a Google search from (Bing etc work fine). It also affects other Google products, so I can't search on YouTube, for example. This is particularly irritating because many non-Google sites use Google ad services and the problem stops those sites loading as well. There's also a 'deal checking' app that searches the Play store for price drops. That hangs as well. Google is everywhere. Therefore, I have to stay on 4G and although I have plenty spare data, I like to do things such as cast childrens' videos from my phone to my Sky box and the 'cast' option doesn't work from 4G.

I have tried many things as recommended by various web searches:
- Uninstall Google Play service updates and reinstall.
- I've checked the date and time, which can apparently cause this issue.
- I've deleted each of my (four) Gmail accounts in turn, tested and then re-added them. This hasn't fixed it either.
- I've enabled developer options on the phone and toggled some switch or other in there without luck.
- I've altered a flag in Chrome that I found on a web search somewhere and now can't find again.
- I've done a factory reset on the phone.

I've spent quite a lot of time on it overall. My broadband provider is Fibre through BT with their usual router (all settings as they were when i got it). My old iPhone worked perfectly through BT fibre and my wife's fibre did the same. I've checked for possible issues with the router that might cause it, but there's little information on other people with this same problem.

So then - any experts on here that can help me fix this?

* - this actually happened on my computer first, but the PC is now completely ok after I altered the Chrome flag mentioned above.
