Annoying GPU Problem

Had this for a while and it's gradually getting worse. I'll be browsing, typing, playing a game, whatever... it doesn't matter. Randomly my screen will go blank for 0.5-1s, then come back on. Some times it won't happen for several hours, or it can happen 3 times in a minute. Have done various drivers, and the fault has followed over 3 Windows installs, so it's most likely HW. I'm going to get a new HDMI cable. I don't think it's my TV as it's never happened when on the TV tuner - only when I'm on the HDMI source that the PC is plugged into. Is it looking like a dodgy GPU?

Thanks.

OK, so 99% sure it's the card, as sometimes it doesn't go entirely off, it flashes a grey artefact across half of the display for a fraction of a second...

Try lowering the clocks by 5-10mhz see if that helps. I had a similar problem with my old 7870. Dropped the clocks by 10mhz and no problems at all.

Thanks, will do!

OK, update. The glitch happened again, so decided to go into EVGA Precision X to lower the clocks. This is when, for the first time ever, the glitch appeared 'permanently' - I had what looked like fine static (when an analogue TV is tuned into no signal) I hit the power button to shut down and my image came back. I cancelled the shutdown, and was able to go into precision x to lower the clock by 10Mhz. Now, I don't know if it was actually chrome or another program causing it, as it windows said a program was still running, giving me the option to cancel (which I chose) or to force the programs to close to allow the shutdown.

I'm wondering now if Chrome is the culprit? I can't be sure, but 99% of the time I have it open in the background during gaming, and 99% of the time when this glitch occurs (be it screen off then on, or the static image flicker), I'm browsing the internet or watching netflix in chrome, which is the only browser I use.

So, I'm going to make sure I close all chrome processes next time I game for an hour or more, and I'm going to test another browser for a day to see if it is in fact Chrome. Could be coincidence but worth a shot...
