I have one really annoying problem and that is coil whine coming from my recently purchased ASUS DirectCU II OC R290 whenever i move my mouse cursor on Windows desktop. i get a very high pitched whine and as i like to run pretty silent it can easily be heard.

Upto now I replaced my Corsair HX850 for an EVGA G2 850watt because at first i thought it was caused by the PSU with it being over 5 years old now, but sadly the problem remains.

Tried both Windows 7 & 8.1 exactly the same whining sound.

I've changed my mouse twice now and problem still there, both gaming mice.

The only 2 ways i found that stops this noise is to either enable mouse trails in Windows, or use a cheap tiny wireless logitech laptop mouse which im using right now.

My previous card was a XFX 7950 that i had for over 2 years never had this problem, with any mouse i used.

I've spent best part of £200 now trying to sort out this problem with no luck so any ideas as I'm now considering returning the card.

Have you tried putting the card through its paces by running a benchmark maxed out like 'heaven', and letting it loop for a few hours? I've heard that some people have found that this can help reduce the issue, or even stop it.

In games it fine nothing out of the ordinary and the mouse cursor whine stops, it just the desktop where i have the problem.

I think the main problem could lie with the 1000Mhz polling both these mice do, but i have no option to lower the polling rate to test this out.

I'm going to try a couple of decent none gaming mice today see if the problem still remains.

I'm not sure what mouse you have tried, but with the latest Logitech gaming software you can alter the actual polling rate from 125 / 200 / 250 / 333 / 500 / 1000, that's with using the G5.

Newer Logitech gaming mice such as the G502 etc you can also do the same as above, whether this fixes your issue though is another thing.

Here's something to try that I saw on another forum and it worked for them. Turn up your volume level in windows and turn the volume on the speakers down.
