Annoying issue

Guys, I have just noticed an annoying issue with my system.

For some reason my floppy drive is being accessed every now and then, for around 2-3 seconds at a time.

This seems to happen more when I either turn my external hard disk on or off.

I have ran a disk check on both my internals and the external, and still no go. Also not recently installed anything of note. Spybot finds nothing and my latest HiJackThis log was clear.

Any ideas what it could be?

A floppy drive? why?
I vaguely remember a lose power conector can cause this, that or your floppy drive is dying.
What letter is your external drive being assigned?

Ha ha, call me a dinosaur, but I just can't let go of the trusty ol' floppy drive!

It's assigned to A:

The power cable is fine and Norton is set not to auto check it.

It's definately something to do with the external hdd, as every time I turn it on/off, then a few seconds later the floppy drive crunches.

I can only assume there is some file on the external that Windows seems to think is linked to the floppy, if that makes sense? But I have no idea how to cure it.
