Annoying Messenger/Outlook interdependency

Is anyone else annoyed by this? Whenever I want to shut down MSN (as in get rid of it completely rather than just sign out), I have to either unplug my phone or force outlook.exe to close via task manager. Conversely, if you want Outlook to not be running for any reason (it does create lots of lag if I'm playing an online game and it decides to check all 4 of my email accounts simultaneously) you need to not have your phone plugged in.
Just venting, I know I just need to use a wall socket for it and stop whining...

Don't worry dude, you're not the only one this annoys!

When I close Outlook, I want it to shutdown completely, not stay open downloading mail just because my phone is docked.
