Would you be worried about this noise? I'm going to give as little info as possible for a reason because I want to know simply if it would worry you or not so i'll do it as a sceanrio if that makes sense

You're driving along in a 30 zone setting off from the lights, you get to third and you hear a whining sound as the revs build up, it gets louder as it approaches 2krpm and if you hold it at 2krpm its at its loudest, if you accelerate past 2krpm it goes away, if you press the clutch it goes away. It can also be heard in other gears but not as loud in fact i'm not sure if its the same noise

The noise can best be described as the noise thats made in reverse, it doesnt seem to do it on overrun

Heres why i'm asking

My mate and my Dad have both heard it and say its just the sound of the car and they wouldnt worry, i've owned around 14 cars now and never heard anything like it before. The problem is I only have a couple of days warranty left and i'm in two minds as i've been reading on forums that it could be the input shaft bearing, some people say its normal, some people say it isnt and they had theres replaced, its just constant conflicting information and i'm in two minds as taking the car in would be an inconveniance, its been back twice already!

So, what would you do?

Good job you bought this car for top whack at a main dealer, you have 12 months warranty.

Oh wait no, you let them con you with a month.

You are so predictable to the point its gotten boring. Now you're making stuff up! I paid private money from a franchised dealer.

No, you didn't. Granted you didn't pay "Approved Used" prices, but you paid over the odds AND got shafted on the warranty.

Wow this is ridiculous I really dont know who some of you think you are.

I have seen my car advertised privately for what I paid with more miles and no warranty and I was fully aware it had a months warranty when I bought it so I didnt get shafted at all, what a loud of rubbish. What has this got to do with the question? This is the pack of wolves looking for something to do again, I asked what you would do in this situation and i've been given some sensible answers but yourself and Fox I just find outstanding when it comes to twisting a thread to the point where its got nothing to do with the OP, what I paid for the car has NOTHING to do with the problem

Tell them you need the car looked at before the warranty expires, or if you've had the car less than a month ring the salesman who sold you it and ask for it to be seen to sooner rather than later and tell him he needs to sort you a car out.

Thanks thats done, I spoke to the General Manager and its being looked at on Wednesday even though the warranty expires on Monday/Tuesday it will still be looked at under warranty. The problem I have is I really need a courtesy car and as yet they cant provide one, i'm waiting for them to get back to me but I wont find out until tomorrow now as the General Manager is now out for the rest of the day apparently

As i've said they have booked it in for Wednesday, i'm just waiting to find out about a courtesy car

Now you are saying I should go down there, right now, drop the car off give them the keys and say "its your problem now" Do a commando role out of the showroom, walk home, have no car all bank holiday weekend, somehow do my job on Tuesday, Wednesday until when ever it is I get the car back or get a courtesy car!? Come on be realistic!

I'm more worried now because you're all making it seem like they wont honour the warranty when I reported the issue in warranty and they are seeing it after it expires

There are two of us, the other doesnt drive and is on holiday all next week and this afternoon, theres not a cat in hells chance of taking a day off

Whats the problem with leaving it until Wednesday and waiting for them to get back to me tomorrow about a courtesy car?

what is your employer going to do if your car breaks down in the next 5 minutes and it wont move ?

Will the world end ?

Obviously thats a totally different situation

Do you see all these people saying the same thing?

People in the motor trade and with a lot of car experience?

They are all saying the same thing because they are right.

They havent heard the noise to be fair, for all I know its totally normal. Plus a few of the people that have posted, also posted doom and gloom in the other thread and my holiday thread and guess what, everything turned out fine, IE I got a holiday cheaper than what I posted when I was told I wouldnt, I got the battery replaced on my car and my front splitter was painted when I was told "good luck with that"

Ok i'm going to drop it off at the garage I bought it from at 5:00pm today and take each day as it comes. I would have done it the other way but you people are scaring the crap out of me in all honesty

This means I have to get a taxi from there to the train station, then get the train home, then go all weekend and however much time next week without a car

Its 5 years old with 47k miles, its a 1.8 Toyota Corolla with full Toyota history and one previous owner. I've owned all types of performance cars and never had a problem what are you on about!? Your basically saying anything other than a brand new performance car is unreliable which leads me once again to think you dont know what you are talking about

And iv owned more performance cars than you have had hot dinners and i can tell you that if you need a car 100% of the time, buy 2.

Its a 5 year old 3 door hatch for god sake, you're saying a should have a second car and use my shopping trolly as a weekend car!?

I actually just LOL'd for the first time this morning, this place is bonkers, thanks for that!

I was kidding, i dont give a **** what you do or buy.

You asked for some advice, you got it, take it or leave it, but when 6 people all say the same thing, its not a coincidence, its probably right.

I took the advice on board? I'm dropping the car off tonight and i've made them aware I dont want it back until the noise is gone, i've already said this!?
You and the rest of the pack are just looking to get a few more scraps from the meal

I'm still laughing at using a Corolla for a weekend car and getting something else for a daily, that is priceless

Ok its a rainy day i'l argue with you.

Put aside the fact i was pulling your leg.

Where did i say use the toyota as a weekend toy?

I didnt, i said if you need to be 100% sure of having transport all the time, buy 2 vehicles.

Van for work, toyota for social in your case.

As for scraps for a meal, do you honestly think anyone on here gives a toss what you do?

We are all on here to pass a bit of time and help out/ get helped where possible.

Its quite sunny here :D

You didnt, I said it, but its still the same point, I cant afford to run a second car and if I could I wouldnt have the Toyota as a toy, or weekend car, or any car, i'd just get a nicer car, I dont need two cars I am one person, I can only drive once car and only have room for one car, the very suggestion to me was hilarious its the only time i've laughed all day

I dont need a van for work, I need a hatchback that suits my needs, a nippy hatch back suits them perfectly thank you, next time I need help speccing a car i'll make a thread and feel free to suggest something

Obviously people give a toss, not with what I do though but with how to twist a thread and give people grief who they dont actually know with ridiculous assumptions that are not in line with the original topic, it happens everyday and its the same people everytime. Sometimes I read it in disbelief, sometimes it cracks me up

I've received the help and actioned it, I dont understand why we are discussing my car choice and where I buy it from, thats my decision and has nothing to do with the thread, or you, or Fox or anyone else that thinks its up to them to decide. Any car can go wrong, no matter where you buy it and what it is.
