Annoying popping/crackling sound!

Everytime a new sound is played on my computer there is a crackle/pop, like static. This only happens when a new sounds is played, for example if I press the 'Test' button for the speakers it will pop/crackle on the left one before the sound is played, and then pop/crackle on the right one before the sound is played.

This can be extemely annoying!

I have tried onboard sound and a creative soundcard so it's not soundcard related. It also does the same with my headphones and speakers.

I have tried playing around with drivers with no luck.

I have ran DPC Latency Checker, there are no spikes.

I have tried turning off audio enhancements.

Lots of people have crackling problems it seems but the latency checker usually seems to show their problem.

Does anyone have any ideas??

any electrical equipment nearby?

If it happens with onboard and with a soundcard then it is strange. Have you tried using a different soundcard > speaker cable?

Maybe try with a 3.5mm > phono > amplifier if you have an old one lieing around

Are you saying it happens with the onboard audio, but not the Creative sound card? That's what I think you are saying, correct me if I am wrong. Interference can be a problem with onboard, which unless drivers can fix, then it could be a possible combination of components. A different combination may not cause the interference problem, similar to sound cards. In a particular PC, a sound card may get interference issues, put that card in another PC, and it's fine.

If it's the same with your Creative card as it is the onboard audio, that is strange as Guest2 said. Normally it's one or the other people get issues with.

I did have this on my lappy, a combination of latest realtek drivers and altering the defaults for sounds to 16-bit 48khz did the trick
