Annoying (possible) Malware removal

I believe I have some malware on my laptop (google seems to confirm this).

Whenever I boot my laptop (win 8, also had it on win 7 before I upgraded), a process starts running automatically called 'Media Dashboard 32.exe'. What this does is cause phantom audio to play in the background. If I end the process it is fine until I reboot.

The file causing this is 'stdrt.exe'.

Nod32 does not pick this up, neither does malwarebytes.

Various sources on the net say to delete the file in question (it is not protected so can just be deleted) and to delete any registry entries relating to it. I have done this a few times but sure enough, every time my laptop is restarted it's back there again.

Any ideas?

Disable system restore
Ccleaner slim
run hijackthis, paste log into hijackthis.de
run nod32 online scanner
run mbam
run spybot

Are you sure that you've removed all the related files as a google of that file and there's a regsrv.exe file in windows\system that is linked to it and is likely assisting in the restoration of the stdrt.exe file.

I just thought I'd update this for anyone else possibly having this problem.

Nothing manual really worked (I tried everything bledd suggested).

In the end I downloaded "unhackme" (the trial version) ran it once and that was the end of my problems!

The standard places I always check:

Start > All Programs > Startup

(Windows registry)
HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Run
HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > RunOnce
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Run
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > RunOnce

Stupid malware.
