Annoying resolution issue

Not sure where this belongs, as it could be related to any number of things.

Problem is, when outputting 2560x1440 over displayport connector from my 6950 to Hazro H27WD, sometimes when the pc is started, it's like the desktop size is correct (2560x1440), but the resolution is something like 1024 x 768.

What this means is that I can only see a portion of the desktop. I can keep moving the mouse, and windows doesn't think I have hit the edge of the screen.

If I change res to something lower and then revert, it goes back to 2560x1440 for desktop and resolution.

This problem does not present itself over DVI-D. However, I wasted money on a displayport cable, so would like to use it if possible.

Sounds strange... if you have two devices connected to the machine (such as the monitor and the TV) is the resolution stretched over the two even when the other device could be in standby mode?

Not much of anything yet, except trying dvi-d and seeing that works fine.

There is a setting in catalyst control center to do with scaling i enabled last night, but have not had enough time on that yet to determine if helped.

Apart from that, no idea what else to try. Not even sure if the problem is with GPU or monitor.

If the problem doesn't exist when using the DVI cable then just use the DVI cable, keep the DP one in case you ever want to go eyefinity, or sell it.
