wasn't sure where to post this as, I'm not really sure what's causing the issue.

just finished building this new PC
all is fine, watercooled CPU that is well within temps

so I have finished up and I plug in my headset "WOW!"
even on 5% volume it is Deafening !
and in games there's this static buzz in the background.

okay, I wanted a soundcard anyway so I get a Sound Blaster Audigy 30 quid card.

install it in the PCIEX1 slot and install drivers, tweak some volumes as it is STILL Deafening! (not like my old AC97)

boot into ARMA3, or Batman Arkham city or any game and
"with the sound muted!!" there is a persistent buzzing ... Grrrr

Maybe it's Nvidia 780's in SLI ?
rip out one card and try ... same
swap cards ... same
reinstall SLI in different order .. same

try soundblaster in PCIEX4 slot ... kills Nvidia SLI ... (not enough bandwidth) .. same result.

Reseated the RAM, tried a new PSU (I had a spare)

still this damn buzzing, only in games ... starts from the menu screens.

it's not overclocked (apart from the automatic clock that 4790K applies up to 4.4Ghz)

BIOS is flashed to the latest revision (had to fix some voltage issues)

I'm stuck and annoyed ... anyone offer any help ? or just ideas ?

okay more info :

it seems directly linked to the GPU now.

as in, I can hear a crackle when I mouse over web links on this forum

the tone of the buzz changes as the framerate in game increases or decreases

annoying as ALL of this stuff is brand new... I have no idea how to narrow it down to a faulty component

does your motherboard have onboard video, so you could try without a graphics card, what version of windows are you using? I presume you have tried with the mic unplugged, I have had a slight buzz when using a worn mic lead, but to be honest it seems to be linked to the volume problem you have.

i have exactly the same on my gpu also crashes and goes extremely loud on the odd occasion. mine has been linked to coil wine and is going back under warranty its so annoying hope you get it sorted soon buddy

Yup, but cant get a game to load on the integrated gpu.

:(

And the gigabyte drivers for the onboard sound i have are now corrupted on download. Which s really annoying

Have you tried the setup with a different pair of headphones?? If everything is new then it could be anything including the headphones.
