My bedroom window handle has always been a piece of poo and would regularly come off in my hand and then screw back in but last year it completely disintegrated and wont go back in. The installers have long since gone bust so they're no help and and I've had a few of independent guys come out and have a look and never heard back and a few more saying the entire window and frame would need replacing because it's not possible to find replacement handles.

I'm wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on how I might be able to seal the window shut? The link below contains two pictures showing the state its in now, the second picture shows that it doesn't come close to sealing shut. I've been using a zip tie looped through the screw holes to give me a makeshift handle so i can slam it shut as much as possible. I'm a DIY imbecile and the best/worst (delete as applicable) idea i've had is to drill a couple of holes in the frame (marked by the red blobs in the second photo) so I can loop zip ties through the frame and the window so I can pull them as tight as possible. I doubt it'll make a proper seal but it'd be better than it is now.

If anyone has any better ideas that dont involve me spending several hundreds pounds on a new window i'd be grateful to hear them.

One of them worth a go?
used them no probs was going to say with ours the screwholes also became enlarged to the point the threads were almost stripped, i ended up getting larger self tappers and luckily it worked ,also the holes in the new handles were slightly out of line to the originals ,but the longer self drills were pretty useless in old upvc

Fill the holes with epoxy putty, then re tap them to replace the handle?

The wholes aren't really the problem, the handle itself is kaput as most of mechanism has fallen out and is in a dozen pieces, some of which I cant find.

does the window still open? Is the locking mechanism open? Could you not just fit some sash locks / sash guards? They just screw into the frame and have a lever that locks in place.

Absolute doddle - at least then if you need to open it you can.
