Does anyone else get an issue where you can be watching a video file the the video freezes but sometimes the audio will still occasionally play, then maybe 20 seconds or so later everything unfreezes and the video is playing in a faster speed like its trying to catch up with the audio? Basically during that time the system is unresponsive.

Been getting this for ages now and still havn't figured it out, tried different media players like vlc with no effect on the issue.

Not experienced either.

OP, open the Event Viewer > Windows logs and see if there is anything in there that might give you a clue as to what is causing the freeze. If it is doing it with different media players, then it might be the graphics driver. Does it make a difference what type of video file is playing?

Ony time I've ever had the OP's problem is when I pause the video (to go to the toilet or answer the door... so I'm gone for a reasonable time) and then resume the video, it stays frozen on screen but the sound plays, then the video tries to catch up at hyper speed!...

I think its because the Hard Disc is trying to catch up after spinning down when paused!!.. could be wrong though!

:)

Seems to haoppen mainly on avi files more than anything, can't say ive noticed it happen on youtube or anything like that.

It does however seem to affect games to an extent, i'll be playing a game (mainly team fortress 2) then it locks with repeating audio for maybe 15 seconds then unfreezes, it will then let me play for a few secs before doing it again for maybe 5-6 seconds. Then normally the game plays fine from that point forward.

Nothing in the event logs that seems to mention any errors.

I think it could be this, have a look at your power saving options.

I would try updating your graphics, sound and chipset drivers.

You can get momentary pauses while waiting for hard drives to spin up, but even my DVD drive doesn't take 10-15 seconds.

Any antivirus running?

Just ms security essentials. Gonna try some updates and change the hard drive power settings to see if it makes any difference.

I used to use Sharks codecs, but they screwed up encoding with Premiere Pro, so I stopped using them. Everything I need works very well, so I'm not too fussed :)

Seems to happen in tf2 still after changing hard drive spindown to never. Not noticed it on vids today as yet.
