Annoying wireless issue

Hi guys,

I got back from uni about 2 weeks ago. The net was a very slow, and thought it had been about 3 months scince a reboot or restart of the router had happened so was time for a fresh start. After forgetting my details and then remembering them everything was fine. No problems with WEP key etc etc all hunky dorey.

For the past few days, despite the fact i still have good to excellent signal, i regulary get disconnected from the internet. I am still connected 'local' to the router or my wireless connection, but have no actual internet if that makes sense. The other laptops on the connection are fine, not even a flutter. I have tried updating the drivers for my wireless adapter in my laptop, but it is upto date (Sony Vaio C series). A friend suggested changing the wireless channel, as the humidity may affect it, but that has been to no avail.

I have little knowledge of networking, but begin to get lost when it comes down to DNS and IP's and TCP/IP's.

Vista seems to think its a problem with an IP address, cant get the error message right now, but will quote it next time it comes up.

Has anybody experienced this before? or got any suggestions? treat me as a network novice.

Im sick to death of having 'local and internet' in the bottom of my screen! that also reminds me the network icon has disappeared from my systray too after unistalling the wireless drivers and reinstalling them again, so if someone could point me in the direction of getting that back that'd be great! :)

sorry for the lengthy post

any help appreiciated

Have you tried flashing your router with the latest firmware and latest drivers for your wireless card?

Sounds similiar to something I saw once, try change the channel that your broadcasting on.
