Another 3 monitors question

Hey all,

I'm looking at a PC upgrade that will include an NVidia 560Ti and a Z68 Mobo. I hear many rumours about it being possible for the NVidia to drive 2 monitors and the Z68 to drive another, but have yet to see any factual evidence of this.

Can anyone shed any light on "the truth?"

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

To run 3 monitors with Nvidia cards you will need 2 560TI's in SLI.

I know this because I asked the same question awhile ago :)

You could probably do that yes. Multiple GPUs/displays have been a possibility for years.

You won't be able to combine them though into one desktop, so from memory you will need to mirror two screens and then extend onto another.

You certainly won't be running Nvidia Surround, as that requires either SLI or a small handful of bespoke cards (KFA2 make a 570 that does surround alone).

An easier way if you want 3 screens might be to get an AMD card, these support 3 screens though one needs to be connected via displayport.

I have an AMD/ATI card at the moment, beejjacobs, although it's a bit outdated. I guess NVidia have lost a sale with this one.

Cheers for the help guys.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure why it is that Nvidia don't add support. I guess its not really something most people would ever use. If you did want a 560Ti still there is a KFA2 version I believe that supports more than 2 monitors :)

Well, I'm looking now at an HD6950. For an extra £11 or so, there seems to be a notable performance increase (at least according to a reuptable Hardware reviewer) and support for my third screen. Stupid not to really, right?

Yep works a treat, I use my 570 for two and then the on board to drive a further screen and then the on board HDMI connected to my TV...so when all are switched on I have 3 24" Samsung screens which are on 99% of the time then the 42 plasma when needed, never ad any issues at all...

All screens work as extended

You can run 3 screens off the HD 6950 but at least one of them has to run from a DisplayPort connection either directly or via an active adapter.

There was a Sapphire FLEX card which could run 3 monitors without using DisplayPort but OcUK no longer sell it.

So how easy it'll be to setup depends on what connections your monitors have.

This with a Z68, yes? And you can display a combination of any 3 from 4?
