Another 5750 or completely different card?

Posting this due to my brother wants BF3 to feel 'smoother'. He currently has an ATI 5750 and a budget of £150 (approximately). So would he see a bigger performance increase by purchasing another 5750 and crossfiring them? Or buying a different card completely (I was thinking a 6950 when they depreciate even more in value)?

Get a new card. A budget of £150 is a bit low for a 6950? Are you kidding me. The 6950 starts off at around £200!

The only real cards you can get for a max of £150 is the GTX560 (not Ti) and the HD6870.

The 6870 is more powerful than the GTX560, but the 560 can be overclocked heavily to "just" hit Ti performance.

Hope this helps

5770 xfire is roughly equivalent/slightly better than a 5870, so for ease call 5750cf a 5870 for comparison

For majority of games this is going to be roughly equivalent of a 6950/560Ti which are both above your budget, prob just in by selling current card. So adding another 5750 would give you as good performance as you can hope for at top end of your budget, and I expect for considerably less money.

All true, but from what I can tell ATi's Crossfire drivers aren't exactly running smoothly with BF3 at the moment. Lots of people reporting issues with some having a nightmare getting a stable combination of drivers and caps yet others saying they're fine? I'd always opt for a faster single card over 2 lower end slower cards.

I agree but not sure how much of that was my personal opinion versus common sense, lol, but if as you say BF3 is having issues then yes, OPs brother could sell current card and get a 560Ti or maybe at a stretch a 6950, both similar performance levels

Probably end up selling the 5750 for around £45 (hopefully). So that leaves him, just £5 over budget to buy the 6950. Also, if the 7000 series cards come out in December, then the 6950 will depreciate in value a lot.
