hi
i do not know what to do here . i could sell my 5850 for about £115 and put that towards a 570
@£270 or slap another 5850 in for some xfire goodness . i want to order soon to avoid the vat rise . another problem here is will i notice much difference in games comparing the single 5850/xfire/gtx570 . or shall i get an ssd instead . im driving myself crazy here . what do you guys think

im interested in a SLI / CF set up, but ive read a some negative stuff about heat issues with the two cards being near each other and some users recommend to go for the best single card and forget SLI / CF.

Also some people say some games dont support SLI / CF.

Im not too sure what to do either.

i know what your saying but id like to try xfire because there are loads of people with it and i do like to tinker but the 570s have caught my eye and im twitching . has anyone here gone from a 5850 o/clocked to a 570 and noticed much difference in games

Ive been researching the 5850 for the past half an hour or so, and from what ive seen only the ASUS 5850's have the voltage unlocked for tweaking.
All others have voltages locked so you can only apply clock changes.

but ive also just read that the MSI 5850 Frozer can be voltage tweaked, so i dunno, who knows eh!

well ive had my saphire@1000/1150 using msi afterburner . i dont think id run 24/7 at that though

wow where are all the regular guys here . can anyone give me and others any more advice . 5850/5850cf or gtx 570

depends on things like scaling , micro stutter , heat and power consumption but 2 5850's should be as good as a stock 570 or maybe better and with an oc ofc better

I installed a pair of 5850's when they came out in a friends pc with an i7. He's had no problems except battlefield bad company 2 which took ati a while to get the level loading times sorted. They will be significantly faster than a 570. Either is fine really, but for your money another 5850 would give much higher performance than a 570.

I have just gone from an overclocked 5850 to a 570. I can't say I have pushed any really demanding games through it yet but in benchmarks it adds roughly another 50%. So two 5850 would probably be faster but you are dependent on driver support.

The 570 offers other advantages though;
PhysX/CUDA Support
Quieter fan with no boot whoosh
No more micro stutter (particularly noticeable in GTA IV and Far Cry 2)

Having said that an SSD will make you smile - guaranteed.

cheers it
im going through all the etailors now for some cheaper 570s . im not bothered about boot whoosh/cuda just speed really . can you get your card close to a 580 with an o/clock or is that not possible

cheers

I'm running it at 800/2000 on stock volts. I haven't tried it at anything else yet, I just banged it straight to that when I installed. I think you need to hit around 850 to match a 580 which is certainly possible but requires more volts.

It is worth shopping around for vouchers and cash back sites - I got mine for £242 delivered (out of stock though now).
