Another 7970 to send back!

So I received my second HIS ice q 7970 today. The first one was dead on arrival and as OCUK had no stock left I received a refund and I was very happy with turn around and customer services. As I said though, I got my 2nd one in the post this morning. After taking it out of the box I noticed very minor cosmetic damage in that the heat sink fans at the intake end were slightly bent. Ive had a few similar model cards and had this before so to be honest I was willing to overlook the fact but after installing it and booting up a game,and then heaven also, it buzzes like hell under load and I'm not willing to overlook that as well. I hope I can just get credit to get the Gigabyte WF ASAP as the last refund I got took almost a fortnight

I was looking forward to that this morning as well. I should have known what kind of day it would be when there was no game codes with it.

Should add it was the 2nd card in a xfire config and I have also tried it as first card and on its own in both pci-e slots. Psu is an AX1200 so no probs there

Ask for a credit swap, its way faster this way mate and then you can pick it up asap

A credit swap you say? sounds good. the box was sealed yes but the fact the fins are bit bent makes me wonder again. also there was no disk for the his temp monitoring program and a vga to dvi adapter whilst the 1st one had a mini display to hdmi adapter. I dont want a msi one because I hate reference coolers and I cant get a lightning because I have a Hazro monitor and its only got a dvi-d connection.

Sounds a bit like when I had two WF 670's, so it's hardly a brand issue. Maybe all manufacturers are are cutting costs in quality control with the economic downturn.

Get the lightning and put it in the second slot, you don't use it's display connections in CrossFire.

Put the card under some heavy load for a while, it can help with coil whine a lot.

The bent fins don't mean it's used, sometimes this happens in the factor when the cooler is being assembled.

Thanks for the suggestion spoffle but Ive had it under load running the heaven bench for 1 hour and 20 minutes and its no good. I'm not happy with it so I might as well get rid rather than keep it and regret it a mth down the line when I cant RMA it. To some, £340 might not seem like much but I need to be 100% happy with something I paid that much for.

Good shout about the lightning as well but its a lot of money for a second card when the Gigabyte will do the same for £170 less.

You need to give it longer greg, much longer. 12 hours minimum. Up to you of course but you might fix it if you persevere.

Ah,well Baileys already sorted it. Send it this morning and I will have credit in my account by tomorrow. So the question now becomes- do I stick with the ice q and hope for 3rd time lucky or just get a 2nd Gigabyte wf as I am happy with the one I already own?
