Hi there,

I feel ashamed as I only seem to post on this forum when I need advice on new pc's but you guys really are helpful!

I've been saving to buy myself something nice for my birthday.. my current PC is still no slouch (x2 3800, X1800xt, 2 gig ram) but will be donated to my loving girlfriend to upgrade her WoW to slight prettierness.

I can feasibly spend £1200 or so without being scared of my bank statement - not that there won't be regret but!

So! This is what i've picked out for myself so far: any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to make a semi quiet machine.. anythings better than what i've got going on now.

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard- £88

Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retai £146.86

Thermalright Ultra-120 (Socket 754/939/940/LGA775) Heatsink - £35

Noctua NF-S12 800RPM 120mm Silent Case Fan - 3 Pin - £14

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU £70

Samsung SH-W183 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter - £21

Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache x2 - £178

Akasa AK-ICR-01 Internal Card Reader - £12

Now for the case.. i'm torn - i'd really like a black Lian-Li PC V1000 PLUS - however... at £130 it's kinda expensive in my mind for a case! .. I've had enough of cheap horrible cases though so it's between that and one of the cheaper Lian Li's.. would it be much nicer than the pc-60 plus? I notice thats quite small.. and not as pretty! but - is it servicable? would save me £60.. which is the long run isnt that much I guess!

I need ram and a graphics card - I have no clue on the ram.. can you buy decent ram for around £120? if so can someone suggest some? I get quite confused by the speeds of it all.

The graphics card.. now i'm torn.. between the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB - there is a difference of around £140 ... now my real concern is about the eventual dx 10 performance.. is the gtx going to last 2-3 years? I feel that if the GTX will make a sizable difference with its extra pipes etc maybe its worth the expense.. but if i'm going to have to upgrade my card in 1 year.. - 1 1/2 years to play with all the bells and whistles then I may as well stick with the GTS since the DX 9 performance is going to be great anyway regardless of which card I choose at the resolution i'll be gaming at! (1600x1050) Plan on playing some of the newer up and coming mmorpg's.. and crysis of course etc

What are people's feelings about this? I hope to do my gaming on this Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen if that helps! (this will be arriving at a later date.. can't afford all of it at once.. well I can but.. said lovely girlfriend might not be so lovely after that!)

Sorry about the gigantic post - hard to condense my questions!

Cheers in advance

Right!

Decided to go for the gts, and upgrade again another year - I don't think i'll be gaming at a high enough resolution to be that effected.. prefer to save the £150 towards my monitor!

As for the ram.. the weekly offer G.Skill 2GB ram looks ok? what say you?

and I think i'm going to go for the v1000 plus case.. in silver, the black ones sold out :( Hopefully it still looks nice? less scratches anyway I suppose! It just looks nice to my eyes.

All in all comes to £1080 inc some artic silver and a few bits and bobs.. anything else i'm missing before I hit the buy button? if anyone has the time that'd be good! it's late i know hah

Go for the akasa eclipse case it's simply superb will last 10 years or until
the next standard anyway also get a tuniq tower 120 cpu cooler they are the best m8.I'd also look at the crucial ballistix pc 6400 and pc 5300 sticks will go 1000 mhz easy.I guess the akasa eclipse case is a required taste but i
happen to think it looks superb still the best case going IMO.

get the evga 368mb and the e4300and the geil value ram 2gb or the corsair will even do both are good overclockers...however I believe the geil overclocks better then corsair for your chosen board...correct me if im wrong...

you could get the akasa 62 case which is bang for buck...even the lian li pc7+ will suffice

oh and for that amount of money you may want to go down the water cooling road...just an option

good luck

well I ordered - Went for the silver V1000+ case.. I saw the akasa and while nice - I think I prefer this one.. although I wouldnt have minded it in black it always seems to be out of stock and i'm dead impatient when I get my mind set on something.. if i didn't order today my girlfriend would have to endure countless nights of me looking on the web pages at the same thing! Least now i can enjoy my easter long weekend.

I did change the cpu cooler though to as you said - will see how I go! Got buyers remorse already but looking forward to setting it up - thats my fav part.

It all looks fine right? I mean - I wouldn't have minded buying some more expensive ram but i'm not a huge overclocker.. i'll play around with the cpu / gfx card of course but something like water cooling would be out of my league!
