Hi, guys..
Well, I'm in a crossroad.
My system is in my sig.
Now, I've been thinking about doing an upgrade to my system: CPU+motherboard.
But, I can't make up my mind about the road to follow.
1.- I could update my CPU up to a 6-cores, and keep it until loooong next year, including my actual plataform.
2.- Buy a 990FX motherboard and a FX 8120, and still wait to Piledrive, but of course, I'll buy it a few months later of the launch date. In this scenario, I can choose between a Gigabyte UD-3 or a Sabertooth.
3.- Stay where I'm now and get a second 7850 for CFX, and do the update next year 1st quarter.
4.- Get an Intel plataform. Of course, it's more expensive. It would be an i5 3570k + P8z77 motherboard. Or an i7 2600k + with the same board.

Honestly, I know that one of the first answer would be "update", and I'm almost agreed with that. The point is "when".
Should I wait, and then decide between Piledrive or Intel?. Update now?..
It's a good deal getting Ivy??. Is it worth it despite the overheating??
Or should I get another 7850 and keep with my 955 as it is???..
The main use of the rig: games, movies, music, AutoCAD..

Best regards... :)

hi if you are wanting to wat for piledriver i would upgrade to a Phenom 2 x6 or what ou could do is keep your current board update your bios and just get the fx-8120.

if you did want to upgrade your board i would defo recommend the sabertooth i am using one of them and it is great i have had no faults with it as well plus it comes with a 5 year warranty

Thanx for the reply.. :)
The point is, obviously, that I will need a new plataform, no matter which one in the next months.. My 965 has served me well this last couple of years, but I think it's holding me back a bit.
My main concerns are mostly in the near future.
For example, if I go for Ivy, I know they're gonna be at least to the next full year.
If I go fot the 990FX chipset, I'm not so sure if the new Piledrive CPUs will be backward compatible with this chipset/socket. No accurated info on that, yet, at least for what I readed.
I could grab a FX and put it on my Formula, but it's only under a BETA Bios update, and I'm not so confident on the results.. What if I update, then turns out that it's unstable??.. How do I roll back the Bios update, at least to sell it and get a 990FX-based motherboard??.. I've been reading over the net about people having goods results, and bad ones too..
But, again obviously, Intel is more expensive..
I don't live in the UK, or nearby, but as an example (based on Ivy update):
Ivy+3570k= 1000 (none currency, just reference)
FX+990FX motherboard= 700
Second 7850= 500
PII X6= 350

That's the point..

Best regards, and thanx, again.. :)

You're unlikely to get much of a boost by going to a six core Phenom II. Also Bulldozer is barely better than what you have. If you're waiting to see what Piledriver is like then sit tight until then, although I'd be surprised if it is competitive with Ivy Bridge.

If you're desperate to upgrade now Intel is the only direction that makes sense.

just reading that t is only projected a 10-20% increase over buldozer but i would wait for the final results on that plus it is going to be compatible with the current am3+ boards

That's my worst fear.. That I wait until it's out, and then it won't outperform IB, or at least equals.. :(
Not that I'm desperate, but I don't like to get behind in tech.. ;)

Yeah, I saw that somewhere else, too.. And that doesn't seems to be a good boost..

Thanx both for your inputs.. I'll keep searching around and see in order to take my final choice.. :p

Best regards.. :)
