Hi I have been having this problem for some time now which all started halfway through last year very shortly after i upgraded to windows 7.
Occationaly when in a game or some other 3D task my monitor will drop signal and the graphics card will dile down the fans asif i had just alt tabbed away from a 3D application. So far i have tried multiples installs of Vista and Win7 with no luck yeh sometime the problem goes away for example i have been playing sc2 (having previously given up because of said problem) solid for the past 3 weeks and not a porblem yet today Black screen after loading to the title page and the second time even before i got to that.
This also used to happen in Napoleon Total war but only on the loading screens or iff a loading screen had finished at it was loading the campaign map.
Sometimes if i am on Skype and this happens i can still chat away to my friends but sometimes the pc completley hangs or sound crashes, restarting is the only solution.

I have tried swapping out most of the components with no effect the problem still persits, GPU, monitor, Duel Screens, DVI lead, RAM etc
the odd part is that it seems to come at random but once i get one or 2 back screens then it starts happening more frequently till its all the time and useualy a fresh install of windows or a system restore sorts the problem out for a while.

I though it may have been my old WDraptor which died a while after this problem started occuring but after dissconnecting it the problem persits,
aslo i origionaly had problems getting the ATI drivers to install on win7 but believe i have that sorted now and i am at the lattest version.

SYSTEM:
Foxxcon Black Ops LG775
Intel Q6600 @ 2.4ghz
4 GB OCZ DDR3 1333mhz
2x Radeon HD2900XT 1GB

I have been hunting arround for a very long time for a solution to this if anybody has any ideas i would greatly welcome some sound advice :)

Thanks
Chris

Hi and welcome,

Firstly You say in the subjet line BSOD but in your post there no more details of this? the Blue Screen Of Death normally displays an error code then restart the computer if settings are default, you can change the settings to halt on the BSOD so you can see what the error code is and this may give you a clue to where the error lies...

You can download a free program called "Blue Screen View" that loads the mini dump file and displays the root cause of the error either by which driver or drivers or hardware components.....
looking at this narrows it down.....

Another thing to try is to do a full hardware check of your PC mainly testing the Memory is the first step again theres plenty of free ones out there, but using software like PC Check by Eurosoft is a good one I use it all the time in my job role and proves and points to faulty hardware if found.

If all hardware passes then try the below

I know you have flattend your PC a lot with the looks of things but a good thing to try in do it again with windows 7 run full win updates and latest drivers and firmwares for your hardware and leave all other software off so just win 7 and one of the games you get the issue with and test, test and test again if it dont hang load your other software one by one and test in between each one until you get the hang, More than likely you will find the culprit..

Hope this helps Mate.....

Ah my mistake i was under the impresson BSOD also refared to the Black Screen of Death aswel as blue. I have just now finished reinstalling win 7 and updating to the latest ati drivers i will try that progrem you suggested and then the software check.

It is nessasary to install all the updates, i used to let them all run but after having so many problems in the past i ofen just turn Automatic updates off completley in gpedit and leave it.

Win Updates are always good to run as it keeps you protected from these security leaks that Microsoft forget to lock down....LOL but ya right sometimes they can cause more problems than there worth.....
but in troubleshooting its always best to run the latest software, drivers and firmware etc....
