Apologies I know there is a similar thread already in this section but thought I'd keep it all separate!

I'm having 50MB Virgin installed in two weeks and have the proposed setup...

I live in a Victorian house which has 5 bedrooms, the house has 4 floors, basement (L1), first floor (L2), Second Floor (L3) and Attic (L4).

Currently I have Be Broadband which is powered by a DG834Nv1 located in the basement (L1) from there a Cat5e cable runs through to the attic (L4) where a WPN802 provides wireless access to L4 and L2. There are two black spots around the house which I think a much improved wireless 802.11n will be able to rectify.

What I need are recommendations for a router and L1 and access point at L4. I am thinking of a WNDR3700 in the basement but not quite sure of my options in the attic.

Thanks,

Not sure on 50Mb routers, but in terms of connectivity you could consider homeplugs such as the Devolo AV200 which I have found to be much more stable and faster than its Netgear equivalent.

Try the one that comes with your virgin first anyway its a Dlink DIR 615 N Router. If that then fails to meet your black spots look at then upgrading router.
Personally I have a DIR 655 The signal is so strong that I was sitting in my car at the end of the road browsing wirelessly :D

I hate netgear with a passion. So I would reccomend anything over them but im sure you will recieve a few opinions shortly. But the usual applies try ethernet as much as possible even if needing homeplugs as to see the full 50mb speeds will need a decent signal if wireless.

I was thinking of deploying a powerline kit but I’m not sure if the wiring might hinder performance? I had the Belkin 1GBps version in mine.

Thanks Dave, I’ll give it a shot and see how far I get.

I normally use the Internet on the entire first floor (L2) and the attic (L4).
