Another check hardware thread.....sorry

Just got your e-mail. Thanks Mishima.

I would prefer the black case.

Well, it would seem that I am getting somewhere. Apart from the case, everything else seems to be in stock here at OcUK.

So unless anyone has anything to add, it would seem that I have a spec that will do.

And looking at the difference between the original and the current spec will show how much help you guys have been.

Thanks for everything guys.

CPU - Well, since I don't plan to overclock, is it worth losing 270Mhz for £23?

Don't be scared of overclocking, free performance that even I can manage.

Mobo - Again, in terms of future performance, wouldn't a 680 chipset be better? Also, does the 650 have dual 16x SLI slots?

No, it will do 1 x 16 or 2 x 8. But (a) this has been shown to have zero impact on even the 2 x 8800GTX SLi configuration, and (b) SLi is only worth it if you have a 30" screen.

GFX - I think you are right with that one.

Fair enough :)

Interesting idea though and I am particularly curious about the motherboard since that represents a considerable saving. However, in the past, I have always been under the impression that for future compatibility the motherboard is key and not something you want to scrimp on?

Thank you.

Fair point, but if the 650SLi chipset had been out when I was building my PC, I would have got that instead of my 680i. I honestly don't think you lose anything important between the 680i and the 650 SLi.
