Sorry to ask one of those "can this system run INSERT GAME HERE" questions. However I would like opinions on this custom built Laptop I'm considering replacing my desktop with (don't ask why, sufficient to say I want to for various reasons).

15.6" Matte 95% Gamut LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.20GHz, quad-core) OR Intel Core i7-2640M (2.80GHz, dual-core)
4GB (2x2GB) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 RAM
nVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 2GB DDR3
120GB Kingston HyperX SSD

I currently own a Desktop running Window 7 Home Premium (32-bit) & Ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit), AMD Phenom 9850 (2.5GHz, quad-core), ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3, two Western Digital 3.5" 7200RPM SATA 3G/bs (160GB system drive, 2TB media drive) with 4GB (2x2GB) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1066MHz DDR2 RAM.

How do you think the two compare? Improvement? Equal? Worse?

Background: will be used for watching movies, internet & office, playing games no less than a year old, plus occasional HD video encoding.

I have an XPS 17 of a similar specification and it's capable of playing the likes of Battlefield 3 and Skyrim on a mixture of medium and high settings. Be prepared to lower the resolution for more intensive games.
Most console ports should fare very well, save for an exceptional few which are badly optimised.
Either way it should be an improvement over your existing desktop.
