Check in the BIOS, I think there is some kind of option to enable USB keyboard support, you need to make sure it's enabled.

ahh yes that was it I had to change it to USB enabled in the bios thanks guys !!!

but did encounter a different problem all started loading fine put in the key ect but when i got to the section where you choose upgrade or new install it wont let me choose upgrade its ghosted out , it says upgrade must be started from windows but I cant do that .

To upgrade you need XP installed and activated, and then run the install from within Windows.

Stupid I know, but that's how Microsoft have done it.

ok im prob gonna sound like a real donut but I have XP on now is it not activated ? or do i have to do something when i restart it ?

When you first boot into Windows it's not activated.

There should be an icon in the bottom right corner that will hassle you until you activate. You can click on this little icon to start the activation process.

lol im really sorry but where is this icon ?

I decided to do a full instal now and it says it cant find drivers to my hard drive

I know you guys are all pros at this stuff im not lol and a PC is about to be thrown out of the window lol

thanks i really appreciate that . I did do searches but it kept giving me the wrong info . Am I not already activated in XP though ? this is where im misunderstanding as ive been using XP for a year and thiought I did it when i got the pc ?
