Setup my old Hitachi 17" recently after about a year of it sitting in it's box. Turned on and find it's developed a bright green dead pixel. :(

Today I decided to see if it could be brought back to life with a cotton bud and after massaging it a little it became a smaller dead pixel (subpixel size) and was flashing on/off! So massaged it again and it became a full bright green pixel again. Last attempt at massaging and the dead pixel disappeared so it's working again! :D

I'm amazed as I didn't really expect it to come back to life and my girlfriend will be very happy when she finds out her PC doesn't have a dead pixel anymore. :)

Good work, I have a green pixel ruining my new Samsung at the moment. How long did you have to massage it before you noticed anything happen?

At first nothing happened after massaging it for about 10 seconds and then it started flashing. Second attempt after about 3 seconds it was full on bright green again.

At this point I decided to have a black background (I had the forums open at first so it was blue background where the dead pixel was). I loaded up ATI's latest drivers page (crazy I know or lazy but I had downloaded the drivers earlier and remembered it was a black background so was quicker than changing desktop background etc!).

So then I massaged it again and it vanished quite quickly! I'm actually thinking now that maybe having the black background was the key to fixing it since massaging it when it's supposed to be black means it should turn off and maybe that's why it fixed itself!? :D
