8P S3 2.0TFSI. Funny "clacking" noise now appeared.
Engine trying to eat itself or normal valve clatter?
Engine is warm.

That is down near the aux belt tensioner.

Sounds very similar to my Cupra's 1.4tsi when cold:

Was told by Seat that this is normal due to the injectors. Also a brand new Cupra on the forecourt sounded the same.

If its any help Ive had the car at 12k and at 42k it still makes that noise and runs like a dream. The camera phone makes it sound horrible, but it was explained to me its due to the pressure the injectors run at.

So it survived 1500 miles in 48 hours but seemed to burn through a couple 100ml of oil..

Anyway, the noise in the video is audible in the cabin and it sounds like the aux belt tensioner but there's no belt squealing.
You can hear it in the video - it's not the injector noise. It's a "clack clack clack" on top of the injector noise.

It becomes a rattle at idle inside the cabin - just lifting off idle rpm makes it disappear, hence me thinking belt tensioner...?

Googling reveals it could well be the camshaft tensioner..

Is there a chain in these engines too? Seems to be rather hard to find info on this

So it transpires there might be a chain as well, along with a tensioner and adjuster, so it begs the question why these aren't changed with the cambelt.
Annoying. FU Audi.

If it's anything like the old 16v engines in the Mk2 and 3 Golf then they used a belt between the cams and crank then there was a chain driving the two cam pulleys inside the head

Different engine i know but i had issues with my 1.8T, i thought it was clutch plate issues at first since it would make the noise when pulling away, and only a slight tappet noise when running.

Not sure if your engine is the same, but the 1.8T has a camblet to drive the exhaust cam and timing chain to drive the inlet (iirc). The tensioner which sits on the timing chain is oil pressurised, the piston and guides wear, meaning instead of the timing chain being tight, it's allowed to run slack, and you get noise.

Might be worth checking up on.

That's exactly what I read - slack at idle causes noise. Goes away under load.
Obviously needs to be fixed to avoid wearing out related parts, which means lots of money taking the bleeding thing apart again.

At least that's what I reckon it is.
Calling Audi is no good as all they can do is go by what the computer says re cambelt servicing.

Other than the impending cost, what annoys me is the lack of clear information available.
Called a few dealers and it's extremely difficult to get an answer to the question: is there a chain in this engine?
