Hi all - inspired by the couple of recent G5 rebuilds, I've decided to have a go myself.
I've got a case and stripped it out - it took a hefty bang on the bottom via the courier, but I've straightened it out (pretty much, need to finish the bottom off) and am now accruing bits.
Couple of photos here (too big? Can resize if needed)
Since this the PSU in the bottom is out too, and the cables on the back
This is be a fairly long term project, as I need to sell things to buy new (disposable income took a dive when 2 kids came along!!), but I've enough float to start, and a decent enough PC to sell to fund the next stage, so should make some progress.
So what I've got so are is the empty case, some paracord for braiding, some heatshrink for the ends of the braiding, an H80 (one of the ones on the shipping container) and 2 of these:

and an appointment to see Dave at the Laser Hive next week to discuss back plates and the like.
So quite a few bits to go - I'm thinking of a Haswell chip (probably an i5, as I don't do much that needs hyperthreading), and was kind of set on the ASUS vi Gene, but I'm not sure about mATX. Also need to think about a PSU sooner rather than later, especially as I need to learn how to re-braid cables, and also decide whether I'm taking the PSU to bits to fit in the G5 psu case, or just installing it in the top of bottom. For what I want, I'm thinking a fully modular, 650w decent psu should do the trick - but any thoughts welcomed.
A lot of this will depend on what I discuss with Dave - I've seen the full ATX kit he has which go up into the drive cage space, but I need to get my head round what's possible a bit more. Like where I'd put the drives (3 x SSD, I x HDD). And how to mount some fans at the front of the case.....
Eventually I'd like to end up with a gtx770 in there, but will probably have to live with the iGPU off the CPU for a while until I've saved up.
So apart from posting the pictures when I've figured it out, I'll keep posting when I get a bit further on. I would appreciate any thoughts from people, I've got a few ideas in my head, but aren't wedded to many of them, so feel free to chip in.
