Just because I am in need of a new mouse. My ~11 year old Microsoft Intellimouse v1 has finally bitten the dust.

Now, I have in the past used a Razer mouse, and my hand could not get used to the shape. I've tried a few others, logitech included, and I've also struggled to find them comfortable.

The difficulty I'd have in choosing is that you can't really try before you buy with these mice, certainly most retailers would charge a restocking fee(?), and I'd probably end up spending a lot on shipping fees.

I don't really need 20 buttons on my thumb, indeed I've no idea how I'd actually use them having never used thumb buttons before. And I'm not convinced I'm in need of super high resolution - I do play FPS games, but the Microsoft mouse certainly never had super high resolution.

I'm not convinced about wireless mice - I'm sure they're better these days but they never seemed to last long enough when I tried them in the past, and often had issues. I guess if I were to get a wireless it would have to have a docking station rather than take batteries. They tend to be a lot more expensive though..

So: I'm after a mouse which is similar in shape to the old intellimouse, preferrably with back/forward buttons on opposite sides of the mouse (doesn't seem to be the norm these days either!), I've discounted the Roccat series already because I've read a lot about the problems with the scrollwheel, which I use a lot. Ta :).

E-tailers can't charge a restocking fee.
The R.A.T mice look weird, but they can be adjusted, they're very nice to use (In my opinion)

Or you could get a plain looking steel series one with what you need, they're quite nice to use too.

Super high resolution? Not sure what you mean by this.

Did you have any problems with the intellimouse? If not, get another one. You won't find an improvement

This would be perfect for you I believe:

I too loved the intellimouse for its simplicity and comfort, this mouse is very similar to use, has the back and forward buttons and a DPI button on the bottom with 3 settings to suit your needs, thats it apart from the two top buttons and a good scroll wheel. The only issue is the price but I picked mine up from the members market cheap.

I had a Rat 9, the tracking was too weird for me to use but the ergonomics were fine. And the sniper button was actually useful and something I'd like to see on all mice.

I now have a sidewinder x8 which I'm having no issues with, if you want a wireless mouse I can reccomend it. The charging system is great and only needs charging once every three days with heavy use.

I really like the look of the corsair m60 personally http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-000-CS&groupid=702&catid=23&subcat=1257 if it was wireless I'd get one.

Sounds like you are in a pretty similar situation to me about a year ago - I got a RAT5, and I absolutely love it!
Set up a few macros for some games on it, nothing major but it is certainly quite capable, and you can change the size and weight to suit you.

The 7 looks nice, but couldn't justify the price at the time, got the 5 for about £50.
Highly recommended!!

Yes indeed I meant the dpi. In regards to the new intellimouse I just don't find them comfortable to use - the shape change may have been minimal but I've got one at work and my hand just doesn't like it .

I'd just seen the Zowie range and might be tempted at that.

Looks really weird to me, and that it wouldn't suit my hand shape at all!

Logitech G700 is excellent. The wireless functionality lasts for days on end without the need to charge plus you cane make it into a wired mouse with the cable that comes with it. It is also a very comftable mouse :) I'd highly reccomend it.

I still haven't been able to decide. Too many options!

Do PC world/etc sell these? Might try a few in my hand before shelling out.
