Ok two questions...firstly How much do you think i would get for part exchanging my 1999 for cougar, its in great condition. Im guessing about £500?

and 2nd question. Whats the most car i can get for my money for about £1500, im looking.. engine approx 1.3ltr, petrol, year 2000 onwards

any help on either, or both would be great :)

Don't think you'll get a good ratio of p/x if all your buying is £1500 worth of car, the car your buying probably cost the garage £500 in the first place so they will see £500 margin and another car to sell.

Doesn't really sound like your going to get much more of a car, why are you selling?

Sell it privately. A 1999 Cougar in 'great' condition is worth more than £500.

As for a £1500 1.3l car - Ford Ka? Micra? Clio? insert small generic hatchback here?

Why in God's name would you want to swap a Cougar for one of those, assuming that the two questions are related?

TBH You may as well keep the Cougar as it won't really be much of an upgrade.

I assume you've specified 1.3 as you're concerned about running costs? Why not save the £1500 and use that as a maintenance budget?

Im not looking for an upgrade, running costs/tax and maintenance is a lot. i know id be losing a lot but im just looking at the money side of things

Sell it privately then and buy a £500-£1000 first car. Fiesta or something.

If you can't afford a 1999 Cougar, don't go and spend more on a worse car. Talking from experience, because you will regret it. ¬_¬

£1000 to change to a 1.3 micra, which youll then have to spend money on maintaining unless you run about in a complete bucket

just get the cougar sorted out, its a mondeo underneath so cant be that bad at all
