Sorry for the post guys as i imagine yous are all sick of lol but im toying with a upgrade

I have a 1070 and im looking to potentially upgrade to a 2070s.
Will this be a decent upgrade ?

Im after cod which currently bundles with the rtx cards so you could say knocks £40 off the card, if i sell my 1070 for £150-£200 then its looking at a potential upgrade for £240.

would it be a decent upgrade for that price ?

I game at 1440p as 4k isnt viable with a 1070, i like to game at 60 fps with settings as high as possible

or should i wait for the 3xxx cards ?

Should have mentioned i game on a 4k oled tv so no monitor

I'd upgrade your monitor first so something 120hz+, I've only got an RX470 but the difference a higher refresh screen made was amazing. Ok so you might have to stick with 1080 as not many high refresh monitors at +1080, well that mortals can afford

Here is a thing worth thinking about. Is your monitor a gsync one? i don't mean gsync compatible, i mean Gsync or Gsync ultimate. If its not or it is a Gsync compatible then a 2070 super in my book makes little sense considering you can buy pretty much the same performance for roughly 100 pounds less in the 5700xt. Either do that or wait to see if the 2070 non super revival rumour holds true and what the card will cost if it does come true.

sorry guys should have added. i have an itx machine and its in my living room connected to a 4k oled TV so no monitor or gsync

1070 to 2070s would be a big uplift in performance for you. Rough estimate would be 40-45% give or take.

If you can get some money for the 1070 like you say it will be worth doing.

If gaming at 1080p arguably getting into overkill territory as cards like 2070s are good at 2560*1440 or 3440*1440.

Id try hang onto the 1070 until early next year and see what Ampere and big Navi brings to the table. May get a 3070/5900 thats as fast as the 2080ti for the same price.

It's an okay deal, Like you said you want the COD game anyway so there's a saving there, However it's not a massive performance lift so maybe if you can you should wait for the next gen it's not like the 1070's a slow card & with a few tweaks it'll easily run modern games on your TV.

I went with the kfa2 2070 super ex and couldn't be happier. It's a significant performance boost from my 980ti. It's cooler on air than my 980ti was on the AIO

Im toying with waiting but you could just always keep waiting. will a 3070 have a 2080ti performance next year who knows and how much is it likely to cost £600 ??

Its just that the 20 series is overpriced and underwhelming performance wise, + near eol thats why many say to wait. Will be useless at raytracing next year too when more demanding tracing games are released and the next cards have 2-3x the rtx performance.
2070 is what inbetween 1080 and 1080ti? so its not a huge upgrade from a 1070.

if you still have the cpu in your sig (4690k) you'd be better off doing a platform upgrade now and a gpu upgrade next year.

The 2070 i believe was EOL but they are resurrecting it to compete with the 5700/xt why they dont just reduce the price of the 2070s is beyond me.

Yea havnt updated my sig

I now have a ryzen 3700x

I think im gonna hang fire especially since the cards are generally a year old now. Might aswell wait a few month and see what next year brings with better rtx support and hopefully better performance at a better price. Im not really in a hurry but once i get the itch to upgrade its hard to scratch it without updating ha

  • It's a difficult one but I think a 2070s will suffice to drive 4k with good settings (perhaps not max at 60fps do will need to turn down a few settings as my 1080ti is similar perf and it can't) in the latest releases.

I would imagine in bleeding edge titles it may struggle. However, my Titan XP still very much cuts it at 4k and the 2070 Super is faster.

I too just bought a 2070 KFA2 EX and I am quite taken aback at how good it is. Much better than I thought it would be, and faster than my XP on air (XP is under water). I've not had a air cooled card behave so well in a very long time.
