Afternoon guys!

My Pc has come to the end of the line and its pretty old so I wont bore you with the spec of it, however, I do want to get a decent PC for no more than £400 really otherwise the wrath of the girlfriend will be felt!

So here's what I'm after. I will do somevideo editing in Ulead video Studio but not to worried about the rendering speed as I can leave the computer running on its own. I'll be playing some games but not massivly graphical intensive. Things like football games and the odd rol playing type game is where i'll be at. General multimedia and office type stuff will also be done. I have the mouse/keyboard/monitor as well as a good case so i'm just after the guts of the PC really. I also have the DVD writer and CD drives.

Heres what I earmarked on the site as a starting point:

OcUK GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - 56.39

Intel Core 2 DUO LGA775 E6600 2.40GHz Retail / Asus P5K-E WiFi / 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle - 279.61

Samsung SpinPoint T 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD403LJ) - 55.21

Whats your thoughts on that spec? Good bad and ugly welcome :)

I'd be tempted to get parts separately rather than in a bundle, this has a faster CPU but costs less and unless you need the WiFi the motherboard should be as good. Do you already have a PSU?

(£115.14) £97.99
(£115.14)
Abit IP35-E (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £54.99

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) £29.99
(£35.24) £29.99
(£35.24)
Sub Total : £182.97

I only went with the bundle for ease of compatability to be honest. Its been a while since i was involved with PC hardware, i'm a server man at work!

I dont need the wi-fi and infact probably wouldnt use it, I'd use my wired NIC instead.

£224???? Your kidding right? Thats unbeleivable! Yes, i already have a 450w PSU in the case.

For those three parts only, that is a pretty reasonable price and does save you a bit of cash. Your other selections are fine but I might pick an X1950pro over the 8600GT because it should be a bit faster in games albeit not DX10 compatible. :)

Excellent! Only £324 total exc delivery! thats really tempting to buy right now but i suppose i had better clear it with the good lady :)

Incidentally, I have never heard of that memory manufacturer. are they as good as corsair and the likes? I've had a few memory problems on the old computer due to cheap memory so want to make sure i get it right.

OCZ aren't perhaps in the top tier of Ram manufacturers but they make good solid stuff and I know that a fair few people here are using those OCZ sticks with that motherboard without issues. :)
