Hi guys, well I put together my first ever build today...and it won't power up. :(

When the power button is pressed on the front of the case, the power supply fan just twitches a little bit, then that's it. No lights, no noises, and nothing else. Just a twitch from the power supply fan.

Any idea what might be wrong?

There is a 4 pin cable spare from the power supply, but there is nowhere to plug it in on the motherboard. I have the 8 pin, 24 pin and cpu fan all plugged in.

Also have the front panel wires connected like the LED's, reset switch, power switch, and I believe they are the right way around in regards to +/-.

I find it very weird that the power supply fan twitches when the power button is pressed, but nothing else happens at all.

Pretty sure I put the cpu in right, i.e the right way and also made sure it was not loose or anything.

Spec if it helps:

Gigabyte P67-A UD3 mobo
i5 2500k
HD 6950
Antec new truepower 650W power supply

I noticed that the backplate for the hyper 212 cooler is touching the case...could this make the motherboard short? Though if it could, I thought I'd at least get some life out of stuff for a second before it shorted, and also, it seems I wouldn't be able to avoid it touching anyway...

Any ideas?

Looks like you have the correct power connections connected.

Does sound similar to a short, can you remove the board and try external to the case, I assume you installed the standoffs in the case.

Also try a CMOS reset and the memory is in the correct slots.

Was indeed a short.

Solved by putting a couple of standoffs with the raised little bit extra on top, underneath the middle of the board. Still looks extremely close, pretty much looks like its still touching, but it works now so who cares.

Currently writing from my new rig, so it must be ok. On a side note, jeez 1080p is too small for general desktop use lol, but 1280x720 is about right. Will have to switch to 1080p when gaming of course. :D

Thanks for the help.
