Sorry for another question on this, but im going to the Apple store today to get myself a macbook. I heard somewhere on here that if you buy with the HE discount you also get a three year warranty as standard. But on speaking to a guy from Apple the other day he said all you can get is applecare for 58pound for three years which im sure someone on here mentioned as being useless telephone support which i wont need?! Can anyone clarify?
 
HE purchase includes a 3 year warranty. You can pay an extra £58 to have it upgraded to "AppleCare", which adds phone support to those 3 years. That's how it is on the web, but who knows how much the guys in the store know about it!

(Edit - actually, has this bonus 3 year warranty been abandoned? Don't see it mentioned on the HE site any more and AppleCare is listed at £150+ for a MacBook)

Indeed, i couldnt find anything about it either, the only place i had heard it from was here but i dont know if it is true anymore and dont want to have some argument with the guys in the store if im in the wrong!

all current Apple desktop and laptop computers are now provided with a

at no additional cost.

Infact, I got an automated email this morning confirming my 3 year base HE warranty for a Macbook Pro purchased last month.
 
Yeah, just say you aren't interested if they hassle you.

You risk an argument with the guys if you mention the 3 years as standard thing! ;) haha
 
Purchase it from Apple's HE customer services team if you don't get any joy with the shop. I suppose it depends on how soon you want it.

P.S. When do Apple generally introduce their "Buy a Macbook, get an iPod FREE" offer?

They definately don't, you have to buy the Applecare for £58 (with the HE discount). I bought this baseline MB to mess about with so don't really need the three year warranty, am sure i will become obsessed with an updated MBP soon enough :P
 
From my experience:

1. If you buy online, the standard warranty is 3 years, and the Apple Care is at the discounted price but is effectively just for the support element (rather than warranty, because it's already 3 years).

Still on the HE website:
3 year limited parts and labour warranty now standard on all current Apple desktop and laptop computers.

2. If you buy from the Apple Retail stores, they do not offer the 3 year warranty automatically, but you can buy the Apple Care for the same discounted price as the web store, which means you're saving a lot of money compared to the normal Apple Care prices and extending your warranty to 3 years.

PS. The discount seems to now depend on the product, at least for the web shop - Mac Mini is only 10%, Macbooks 14%, Macbook Pros 15%, iMacs 12%, and Mac Pros 16%.
