Another i7 Thread

I've been looking around and can't seem to find the answers I seek (Asking here was my last resort)

What are the maximum safe temperatures and voltages for the various components for an i7, such as the CPU, the QPI link voltage etc.

Currently have mine overclocked to 3.5Ghz, with a voltage of 1.2V in the bios which relates to a 1.152V shown in CPU-Z. I realised the other day that I'd left my bios on auto for the voltage and it was giving it 1.35V :/ Quickly changed that asap, and now I'm getting 61C max rather than 75C under a Prime 95 Test.

P.S What do you think I could overclock too? I'm using a Noctua NH-U12P cooler.

Hi ,

75 under full load that is not too bad. Although many that use the NH-U12P report lower temps on average.
You could try obtaining some decent thermal compound ( if you do not already have it ) and re-seat the CPU. Might do the trick.

I am personally awaiting the Corsair H50 complete WC Cooler. They put a whole new look on things.

Anything below these values would be concidered safe:

CPU Vcore: 1.375 v
QPI/vtt: 1.4 v
Temp: 70-75 c

Of course people go above these values in the search for extreme performance but below this you should be perfectly safe.
For a moderate oc of 3.5ghz you should easily keep below these values!

Intel say that the max Vcore for i7's is actually 1.55v mate..

Also, most i7 users state that up to 88c is considered safe.

Your current temps are spot on, and will be perfectly fine imo.
