another iphone quickie

just got it connected to itunes turned on phone and it wants to activate, do i just close itunes and run jailbreak and will that open the phone for me ?

Leave itunes open and run jailbreak, but you might need to restore first to 1.1.4

I didn't know what version my phone was so I just restored it straight away, then ran pwnage tool after that.

That's correct behaviour.

Leave itunes open and run jailbreak, but you might need to restore first to 1.1.4

It's actually advised to turn off iTunes, and shutdown any iTunes Helper services that are running, prior to running the unlocks.
