Hi guys,

That time came to back up my music and as always it goes wrong.

I had roughly 6150 songs. I now have 5824  could have been a lot worse so i'm not too peeved.

I was copying (ctrl-a) all of the files from my library into a folder called 'manual itunes back up' onto a partition on my harddrive. There were some conflicts as 300 or so songs were already in another folder on this drive 'iTunes' I selected the option to copy and replace but I'm not quite sure whats gone wrong.

I had another folder which itunes copied to by default which was about 3GB in size so may have been the missing songs. Not quite sure what order I did this in but for some reason I deleted my itunes Library, not the files from my PC, and then redragged this almost complete collection back in to Itunes.

Is there anyway to view a sort of transfer log for files that were copied and replaced recently on windows as i think these are all the missing songs? or compare the library files and see what is missing.

Sorry if this is a little vague I'm not entirely sure what I did, I'm normally not this much of a noob.

I have the last 100 or so songs recently added on my iPhone so have somewhere to start.

Thanks for any help

Can you please detail what went wrong and/or how you fixed it just in case other people come across your post and are having the same problem?

Sure :)

I hadn't deleted the actual files from my PC, just from the library. I had several backups of my music collection. Some one one drive, and for some reason a few more gigs on another.

What I decided to do was search my machine for every .mp3 and move them into one folder around 12000 files at current (most duplicates). I will then delete all other containing folders of music. Correct my iTunes settings to back up/create copies to the drive I wish and then re-add these files to my library.

Then sort through and remove all duplicates. And then back up the folder iTunes creates its copies in (which I have selected).

Bit of a long winded way to do things, but then I'm sure every song I had before is back in my iTunes.

Can't really help if the actual files have been deleted other than some data recovery software!
