Hi!

Im kinda new to the PC gaming scene after coming from my PS3. Really got into BF3 on there, and got used to the gamepad. Obviously coming to PC im going to have to lean to use the mouse and keyboard.
What things are people looking for in a fps/gaming mouse?
Im guessing with buttons on the side for shortcuts? such as ducking, jumping?
I have a basic mouse which I got in a bundle with a keyboard for £10! ha.
I reckon Id be looking to spend around £30-£40.

Hey,

Welcome to the realm of PC games :)

for that price I'd suggest the looking between these Mice;

Zowie MiCO Gaming Mouse - Black : KB-012-ZW

Mad Catz Cyborg R.A.T.3 3500 DPI Gaming Mouse : KB-001-MZ

Zowie EC1 Pro Gaming Mouse - White : KB-017-ZW

These Mice are around your price range, out of all of them I'd say the Zowie EC1 Pro Gaming Mouse - White, yes its not a desirable colour although for the price your getting what you pay for, unhindered performance for FPS gaming, and also has the ability for your side buttons, although for BF3 i'd throw sprint on the side buttons, I have the same in Call of Duty and any FPS game with sprint. makes it a lot easier as soon as you stop sprinting your ready with your mouse hand to react and shoot.

Zowie EC1 has good ergonomic design and the sensor on it is tailored for FPS games, I've used one myself, and I'm quite anal about performance, I'd suggest putting it on 450dpi and having 6th notch on windows to ensure you have 1:1 input ratio.

I will add though, Mice and Surface combo's do make or break mouse performance, for gaming enthusiast mice, I'd suggest using a cloth mousepad, and not hard surface, you can pick up cloth pads cheaper, and there overall durable and dont cause issues with lift off distance, they come in many sizes depending on the type of sensitivity you use in FPS games, so I'd look into these also... Mind you I used to play with an optical mouse on a table ;)

Would suggest a Steelseries QcK+ or a Qpad UC Pad

Hope this helps. ;)

Thanks for your time razMki.
The Zowie EC1 does look like the mouse to go for. But whats the difference between this one and the EC2? They're basically the same price on your store.

Both the EC1 and EC2 same specs although the difference is the shape. If you look at the screenshot the EC1 is fairly bigger than the EC2, the EC1 replicates the old school intelli 3.0 and the EC2 is a smaller version

Shape wise I'd pick the EC1 once again as it fits my hand a lot better as I'm not a fan of small mice, which cause too much rubbing of hand - cloth

Quick question for you razMki, have you go the pro and evo muddled up? Because the picture you showed me is the evo, comparing their sizes. Also you said in your first post that you'd put the dpi to 450, but the pro doesnt have a 450 setting, only the evo.

I do apologies bro, Now I'm at home the EC1 that i have is the eVo not the Pro, but for FPS games i'd suggst 450dpi and 6th notch in windows, many articles talk about 1:1 input ratio. with the Pro you can use 800DPI although you have to get DPI/Sensitivity Calculator, but I wouldnt suggest going over 800 for FPS games

I'd recommend Deathadder 2013 and a QcK+ mat. Having said that, the Zowie mice have really good reviews and the EC1 is supposibly close to the DA. I was very close to buying one, but went the DA route (again!)

@razMki, sorry for going offtopic, but I recognize your name. Did you play CoD at all?
Edit: of course you did. Good to see that you got a job at OCUK.

Does depend on the mouse, the Ec2 Evo I has does 450/1150/2300 and I use the 1150 setting with ultra low sens for FPS games. This means I can comfortably use 2 monitors (450 with 2 is a PITA to get across all that screen width) and still ahve great accuracy. If I recall the Zowie's are fine all the way up to 2300 but I wouldn't use that.

Zowies are great In my opinion as their sensors have been setup especially for FPS gaming and they've tweaked the lift off distance and other features to tailor the mouse for FPS gaming, I used one for a while, as there was such hype around them and I couldn't find anything bad to say towards them other than the cord, as I felt if it was braided you'd have no cons.

But my love for the Deathadder will always be strong :D so went back to that :)

I did although since getting married and getting a full time job its kinda took a back foot, as I moved to CS:GO from Call of Duty, although if this Prague LAN is a more frequent thing for the Cod Series can see myself coming back.

I have looked at the deathadder 2013, but I hear you have to login online to register your mouse and to set it up? All your details got saved in their cloud?

Ye, its there Driver Software, basically means if you go to any computer which is different the same settings on the mouse can be transferred onto the new computer without having to set them up as its saved under a profile, this is a godsend when playing at LAN's and Tournaments as sometimes cant use your own computer, why It was implemented, why some mice have gone down the "settings on the mouse" not the computer route.

Hmm I thinking about the deathadder and Steelseries QcK+, but you guys have the deathadder priced way higher than your competitors, and they also offer free next day delivery . Is there anything you can do there? Id really like to buy it through you guys, but the price is stopping me.

The Deathadder and Qck+ combo is what I use and have done for years, although went from Qpad UC to Steelseries Qck+ Heavy, as at LAN events, it sucks playing on a gap in the table :(

We've revised the Deathadder Black Edition Price, its sadly as low as we can put it at this moment in time.

Hope this helps :)

Went through 2 QcK Heavy mats, they get dirty fast! Loved that mat, but wasn't good to clean.

I also remember your CoD2 days aswell, Raz. If I remember correctly, you were a beast with the shotty :P

They can be quite the bugger to keep clean although, having 2 at a time is awesome as you can rotate when cleaning and drying :D I remember a player who I used to play with he'd wash it and blow dry his mousepad, was immaculate :D

And ye that was me, seems I only get remembered by my shotgun antics :( oh well :D
